An Ole Miss student says her Ring doorbell camera caught three fellow students making monkey noises outside her apartment door, and the video she posted to TikTok is now spreading across social media.
Video:
Jakiyra Metcalf, who lists herself on TikTok as a member of the University of Mississippi class of 2030, shared the footage on Friday. The camera’s time stamp reads 8:37 p.m. on Nov. 6. Over the clip she wrote “ole miss??” and in the caption she asked, “what do we have to say about this ??” while tagging the university’s official account.
The video shows three young women outside her door making monkey noises and gestures before walking off.
Metcalf later added in the comments that the women are not strangers. “We just found out they are our upstairs neighbors,” she wrote.
Within a day, the video had more than 631,000 likes and 34,000 shares. Commenters have circulated names they believe belong to the three women and flooded the university’s tags demanding action. Ole Miss has not confirmed who is in the video, and no public statement from the school had surfaced as of Saturday evening.
Ole Miss has been here before. In May 2024, during a pro-Palestinian protest on campus, a white student was recorded jumping up and down and making monkey noises at a Black woman. His fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, removed him, and the university opened a student conduct investigation. That clip later played at the Republican National Convention in a segment praising college students who pushed back on protesters.

Black Mississippians make up nearly 40 percent of the state’s population, but as of 2024, Black students made up only about 11 percent of the student body at Ole Miss.
