Flex Alexander Says He’s Been Fighting 12 Years For A "One On One" Reboot, And Kyla Pratt Already Has A Next-Generation Twist In Mind

The “One on One” reboot conversation is back in play, and Flex Alexander is making it clear this is not some random nostalgia pitch he just remembered last week. During a “Girl Dad Podcast” interview with Kyla Pratt and his daughter Imani, Alexander revealed he has been actively trying to revive the classic sitcom, saying, “I’ve been trying for 12 years, we’ve been close.”

Pratt, who played Breanna Barnes, sounded open to returning too, but she came with the condition fans would expect from somebody who knows exactly how beloved the show still is: “It has to be perfect.”

“One on One” was not just a cute early-2000s sitcom. Created by Eunetta T. Boone, the series premiered on UPN on September 3, 2001, and followed Flex Washington, a former athlete turned sportscaster whose bachelor lifestyle got flipped when his teenage daughter Breanna moved in with him full-time. The show ran for five seasons and 113 episodes before ending on May 15, 2006.

However, the reboot talk got even more interesting when the conversation shifted toward the next generation. Pratt shared that she would like her daughters to be incorporated somehow if the show comes back, opening the door for Breanna’s story to evolve beyond the teenager fans first met. Alexander’s daughter Imani also made it clear she would love to be involved, which adds another layer to the revival conversation. A reboot could bring back the original father-daughter dynamic while introducing a new one, giving the series a natural way to grow without feeling like it is just replaying old episodes.

The original formula worked because it had a simple hook with real emotional weight. Flex was not written as a perfect father, and Breanna was not written like a flat sitcom kid. Their dynamic carried the story while characters like Arnaz, Spirit, and Duane gave the show its rhythm. That is why the reboot question is bigger than “who’s coming back?” Fans want to know whether a new version would restore the father-daughter heartbeat that made the title mean something.

The final season is still the elephant in the room. Season five shifted the setting from Baltimore to Los Angeles and moved the story toward Breanna’s college life with a new roommate setup. Pratt later said the change felt awkward because the family she had built over the previous four years was no longer there.

Still, the show’s staying power is not hard to explain. One on One” came out of a UPN era that gave Black audiences a rare run of sitcoms where Black family life, friendship, teen drama, style, humor, and everyday mess were centered without needing translation.

The series also found a second life with streaming-era viewers. In 2020, Netflix added “One on One” alongside “Moesha,” “Sister, Sister,” “Girlfriends,” “The Parkers,” “Half & Half,” and “The Game”as part of a wave of classic Black sitcoms returning to a wider audience.

So if Flex and Kyla really bring “One on One” back, the assignment is already written. Do not just revive the name. Bring back the chemistry, fix the unfinished business, and give Breanna, Flex, their daughters, and the next generation a story worthy of the classic fans protected for two decades.
