Oracle layoffs moved quickly and quiet Tuesday morning, and workers felt it in real time as inbox notifications turned into instant job cuts. The company began trimming staff across multiple regions, and employees say the message landed without warning and with no transition window.
The email, reviewed by Business Insider, did not leave room for interpretation.
“After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change,” the notice reads. “As a result, today is your last working day.”
That timing hit especially hard because access didn’t last long after the message came through. Systems, files, and internal tools were set to shut down almost immediately, which meant employees had little time to process what had just happened before being fully cut off.
Oracle acknowledged employees’ contributions in the same message, stating, “We are grateful for your dedication, hard work, and the impact you have made during your time with us.” Still, the tone stayed procedural, with next steps focused on paperwork and exit logistics.
Workers were told, “After signing your termination paperwork, you will be eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan.” The company also required departing staff to submit personal email addresses right away to continue receiving updates tied to separation and benefits.
The cuts follow a wider pattern across tech. Amazon recently reduced tens of thousands of roles, while Meta continues multiple rounds of layoffs after years of aggressive downsizing. Oracle, which reported roughly 162,000 employees last year, is now moving in that same direction as it adjusts spending and priorities.
