The cold treat is a pinkish frozen wiener identical to the famous Oscar Mayer hot dog. A yellow squiggly line down the middle resembles a strip of mustard, adding to the realistic feel. This exciting summer treat is held together by a stick and is perfect for eating on the go.
While this concept may seem out of left field for some, Cold Dogs have actually been in the works for several months. The idea was birthed from an Instagram poll on Oscar Mayer’s official social media profile earlier this year. During the survey, the company asked if its followers would be interested in a frozen version of the American food staple. Immediately, hot dog lovers began pleading for the innovation. The response was so overwhelming that Oscar Mayer said developing Cold Dogs was a “no brainer.”
Sadly for those wanting to get their hands on this snack, the Cold Dog is not a dessert that can be grabbed at your local grocery store. As of now, they are only available in select Pop Bar locations in Long Beach, New York City, New Orleans, and Alpharetta, Georgia. Pop Bar is an ice cream and popsicle company specializing in creative ice cream and popsicles. The brand is the mastermind behind Oscar Mayer’s latest offering so having it in their stores was an easy decision.
Though there is no sure description of the flavor, the company describes the popsicle as having a “smoky” taste, so think grilled hot dogs that have sat in the fridge for a while.
