Melody Shari Rodgers turned herself in at the Madison County Jail Tuesday morning after a warrant connected to harassment allegations involving her ex-husband, Martell Holt, opening another legal chapter between the former “Love & Marriage: Huntsville” couple.
According to WAFF 48 News, Madison County Jail records show Rodgers was booked shortly before 9:30 a.m. on September 22 on a charge listed as Domestic Violence, Third Degree, Harassment. She was released before 11 a.m. Her publicist told the outlet that the allegation came from Holt, her ex-husband and former castmate. WAFF did not report additional details about the specific conduct alleged in the warrant.
The wording of the Melody Shari charge is important because Alabama law does not limit third-degree domestic violence cases to allegations of physical assault. Under the Alabama Code published by Justia, harassment and harassing communications can qualify as third-degree domestic violence when the accused and the alleged victim have one of several qualifying domestic relationships, including being current or former spouses. That means the domestic violence label on Rodgers’ booking record should not be interpreted on its own as an allegation that she physically attacked Holt.
Rodgers is publicly denying the accusation. In a statement reported by WAFF, Melody Shari called the allegations “fabricated” and said the situation has become part of a greater effort she is making to change Alabama law.
“I have endured years of harassment that has affected my family, children, and livelihood. While this is traumatizing, I know that it is far bigger than me. This is a national issue because it’s far too easy to get warrants on innocent people. That’s why Senate attorneys have written a new bill based on my situation.”
Her representatives say that proposal is being called the “Melody Shari Act.” The proposed measure would seek felony consequences when someone knowingly files a false police report that results in an innocent person being arrested. The report also says the proposal could expand civil consequences for proven false accusations. Rodgers and her representatives identified Alabama State Senator Merika Coleman as a lawmaker supporting the effort.
Alabama already has a false reporting law, which provides useful context for what Rodgers says she wants changed. An official 2024 measure from the Alabama Legislature amended state law so that knowingly making a false report about a crime to law enforcement generally constitutes a Class A misdemeanor. The legislation elevated false reporting to a Class C felony when the false report alleges an imminent danger to a person or the public. It also allows restitution when a false report causes an emergency response or investigation. The proposal being associated with Melody Shari would appear to focus on another consequence: a knowingly false report that allegedly causes an innocent person to be arrested.
The current case also arrives against a significant piece of legal history involving Holt and Rodgers. In September 2025, Holt was convicted in Huntsville Municipal Court of third-degree domestic violence involving harassing communications against Rodgers. After appealing that case to Madison County Circuit Court, Holt entered another guilty plea in August 2025. The court accepted the plea and imposed a suspended jail sentence along with probation and financial obligations.
That earlier case arose from allegations involving communications Holt sent Rodgers after their divorce. Rodgers accused Holt of sending her an intimate screenshot and threatening its release. The allegations became part of the former couple’s broader post-divorce legal conflict, which included disputes concerning their four children. Holt’s 2025 guilty plea is separate from the new allegation against Rodgers.
Their relationship and breakup were a major part of “Love & Marriage: Huntsville,” but Rodgers eventually stepped away from the franchise. In January 2025, Melody Shari announced her departure after nine seasons. She and Holt share four children. Her exit ended her regular role on the series, but the former couple’s legal disputes continued after her departure.
For now, the Melody Shari arrest remains an allegation rather than a finding of guilt. Rodgers has denied the harassment claim, while the publicly available reporting does not yet provide a detailed account of the alleged incident behind the warrant.
