A man who was pardoned by Donald Trump for his role in the January 6th Capitol attack is back in legal trouble, this time accused of threatening to kill House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
According to court filings obtained by Reuters, 34-year-old Christopher Moynihan from New York allegedly sent a series of violent text messages expressing his intent to harm Jeffries, who leads the Democratic caucus in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prosecutors say Moynihan’s messages were detailed and explicit, describing his desire to “eliminate” Jeffries and calling him a “terrorist.”
Moynihan had previously served 21 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to obstructing an official proceeding during the Capitol riot. His early release came after Trump issued a blanket pardon for January 6 defendants earlier this year.
Authorities in New York charged Moynihan with making terroristic threats, a felony offense. If convicted, he could face years behind bars.
