According to the BBC, a couple in India has launched a lawsuit against their son and his wife because they have not given them a grandchild after six years of marriage.

Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad claim they have been subjected to “mental abuse” because they allegedly spent all of their savings on their son, only for him and his wife to prohibit them from having a “grandchild to play with” in retirement. If a child is not born within a year, they ask for roughly $650,000.

The parents claim that in 2006, they spent $65,000 to send their son to the United States so he could obtain his pilot’s license.

The following year, he returned to India and lost his job. His parents are said to have financially supported him for the next two years until he could get back on his feet and find work as a pilot.

In 2016, their son had an arranged marriage where they paid for most of the expenses, including the reception, an $80,000 luxury car, and a honeymoon abroad. Six years later, the couple is seeking compensation for the money they think they have lost due to the lack of a grandchild.

“My son has been married for six years, but they are still not planning a baby,” Prasad explained. “At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable.” AK Srivastava, the lawyer for the Prasads, said, “It is a dream of every parent to become a grandparent. They had been waiting for years to become grandparents.”

The couple’s case will be considered later this month in court.
