Singer and OVO affiliate PartyNextDoor made his Baller Alert debut in September 2014, when Baller Alert was the first to publish photos of him with a woman named Hazel as part of a Baller Mail feature. The post included suggestive photos of the two and speculated about the nature of their relationship. Baller Alert reported it first, and nothing in the post was ever confirmed by either of them at the time.
In an April 2015 cover story, FADER Magazine reported on a no selfie rule that PartyNextDoor now follows. According to FADER, when a group of fans asks for a selfie, he politely explains the rule, which was put in place after photos with a girl from Miami “landed him on the gossip site Baller Alert.” FADER described the Baller Alert post as detailing a fabricated relationship. You can read the full interview on FADER.
Since the FADER story brought the situation back up, Hazel sent Baller Alert a statement of her own. She says it was never a groupie situation. According to Hazel, she and PartyNextDoor were friends who connected after she reached out about his music, and she says she posted the photos on her own Instagram because they were hanging out as friends. She says there was definitely something between them, though nothing serious, and that the details will stay private. Hazel also says she is not trying to bash him. Her goal, she says, is to clear her name and be left out of the rumors.
PartyNextDoor had not publicly responded to Hazel’s statement at the time of this post.
Two people, two versions of the same moment. Baller Alert is glad to give Hazel the space to tell her side, and we understand why an artist would want a no selfie rule after a photo ends up in the headlines.
