Social media-obsessed passengers are stranded in Mexico after partying and not wearing masks. The group of social media influencers posted several videos on social media partying on a Sunwing Airlines flight on Dec. 30.

On the flight, a bunch of unmasked passengers are vaping, drinking, and in extremely close proximities given COVID. One teenager has tested positive for the virus since the out-of-control flight. Rebecca St-Pierre told the Canadian Press that she is in isolation in Tulum. The influencers were traveling from Montreal, Canada.

Initially, Sunwing Airlines canceled the returning flight because the flight attendants were uncomfortable and the influencers were partying hard. However, Air Transat and Air Canada refused to fly the passengers back to Canada.

In a press conference, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the maskless influences “idiots” and “barbarians.” He says, ” It’s a slap in the face to see people putting themselves, putting their fellow citizens, putting airline workers at risk by being completely irresponsible.”

Apparently, the trip was organized by James William Awad.

He took to Twitter Wednesday to address the public criticism of his organized COVID flight. He called it a “simple party.”

Then added “I will take a moment to sit down and rethink everything. Especially how I can do things better next time.” The passengers could face up to a $5,000 for each individual offense.

St-Pierre admitted she won the free trip and never even met Awad. Apparently the trip organizer ditched everyone. She thinks about 30 of the passengers have COVID now. She says, “I was expecting a relaxing week, where I was going to be careful. But this turns out to be an expensive trip for something that was supposed to be free.”

Most of the other passengers were influencers and reality TV stars.
