As if there weren’t enough to debate online, a video of Houston Pastor Keion Henderson has raised the question of whether or not there is a right or wrong way to worship in church.
In the video of his recent church service, Pastor Henderson can be seen leading a prayer, followed by a song on the stage. As he attempts to sing, a woman in the choir can be heard loudly crying, nearly overpowering his voice. Henderson, seemingly annoyed by the hollering, briefly stops singing and tells the woman to “shh.” He then walks back and snaps his fingers at her, demanding that she stop the screams.
“Silence in the name of Jesus,” Henderson demands before continuing his worship song.
The viral clip has people in an uproar and taking sides. While critics say that what the pastor did was harsh, others back his actions, claiming he did the right thing as she was causing a distraction. The main argument from those slamming the pastor is that it is not God-like to stop a worshipper while they are praising the Lord, even if they are loud.
Fans of Henderson are singing a different tune, highlighting that the woman may have been causing others to miss the word due to her outburst. In Henderson’s Instagram comments, several parishioners have accused the unidentified church attendee of frequently having these types of moments in church, which points to some possibly growing tired of how she chooses to worship. She has not come forward about the moment, though Henderson does not seem to have any remorse about how things went down in the sanctuary.
Several social media reactions have shown the varying feelings surrounding Henderson’s actions.
