Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is the subject of a lawsuit filed by a man who says Hernandez shot him in the face. Hernandez has not been charged with any crime in connection with the claim, and TMZ reported that his representatives had not responded to its request for comment.
According to the lawsuit, which TMZ reported was filed in federal court in Florida on June 13, Alexander Bradley and Hernandez went to Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami on February 13, 2013, and got into an argument. Bradley claims the two men then left in the same car headed for Palm Beach, and that during the ride Hernandez aimed a gun at him and it went off, striking him in the face.
Bradley says he lost his right eye and needed facial reconstruction, along with surgery on his right hand and arm. He was seeking more than $100,000 in damages. TMZ reported that the case was dismissed four days after it was filed, and a source told TMZ the dismissal was over a paperwork error and that the suit would be filed again.
Police told TMZ that Bradley was found bleeding outside a business in Riviera Beach, Florida, the morning of February 13. Authorities said he did not name who shot him at the time and was uncooperative with investigators. Police also said Hernandez had not been identified as a suspect, though that could change.
The lawsuit was filed five days before police searched Hernandez’s home as part of a separate homicide investigation, according to USA Today. The two matters appear to be unrelated, and Hernandez has not been charged in either.
