Two Pennsylvania police officers were fired after they submitted fake COVID-19 vaccination cards to their department.
The Lancaster City Bureau of Police said in a statement that officers Heather Schaeffer and Benjamin Lapp were removed “following a Bureau of Police internal investigation into the use and submission of false records related to the City’s COVID-19 reporting protocols.”
According to Lancaster Online’s Dan Nephin, Officer Schaeffer received a blank vaccine card from a family member, made a copy, and sold it to Officer Lapp for $20.
The city of Lancaster does not require employees to be vaccinated, but fully vaccinated persons are allowed to avoid wearing masks in public places.
The officers were fired “for violating required standards of conduct, for conduct unbecoming an officer, and for conduct suggesting they are unfit for service as police officers,” according to a statement from the police bureau.
On October 20 and 18, Schaeffer and Lapp were fired, respectively. According to Lancaster Online, Lancaster County District Attorney Heather Adams has launched a criminal inquiry into the situation.
