How many times has someone asked you, over and over, for advice about the same situation but never takes it? The first time they ask, you feel bad for what they are going through and want to help in any way you can but when they begin to ask the same question over and over again, it’s evident that they are comfortable with their situation.

For example, if your homegirl told you she caught her boyfriend cheating and she doesn’t know whether she should leave or stay. Of course, the answer is obvious but because she’s so in love, she doesn’t want to leave. In your mind, you are over her sticking around with someone that constantly lies and mistreats her. But what I’ve learned over the years is that you have to let people handle situations on their own. You are going to be tired of repeating the same thing over and over again.

If your friend is okay with someone cheating and lying to her, then let her continue staying in the relationship. Eventually, she will get tired of the lies. Anyone that stays around in bad situations is not going to leave until they have reached their breaking point. There’s no time limit on dealing with ignorance, although there should be.

As a friend, you have done what you could and that’s being there for your friend. Just let them vent if it makes them feel better. One day they will understand that people will only do what you allow them to do.
