Fraternity hazings have been thrust into the spotlight in recent weeks, and now more terrifying instances have come to light, involving the forceful use of drugs while pledging to Phi Kappa Tau.

An investigative report conducted by North Carolina’s WITN uncovered multiple hazing allegations against the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity at East Carolina University. More alarming, these complaints were all filed just in February alone.

Misconduct reports submitted anonymously detail disturbing claims. One states pledges were forced to do cocaine in the basement, while another describes being made to hold elbow planks on beer caps and vomit on each other. Some pledges reportedly fear upcoming punishments.

“These people could end up hurt or in emergency rooms for something that could be easily prevented by just not doing it,” ECU student Makenzie Sadler warned.

Despite these allegations, ECU confirmed that Phi Kappa Tau remains active and in good standing. The university said, “ECU investigates any allegations of hazing and violations of the student code of conduct through its office of student rights and responsibilities.”

ECU Police say the fraternity house falls outside their jurisdiction, while Greenville Police report no hazing complaints.

This is not Phi Kappa Tau’s first time being in hot water. The frat was recolonized in spring 2023 after being suspended in 2018 when police seized over 2,500 Xanax bars from its house.

“If all this stuff is true, again, they should be kicked off and not allowed back on,” Sadler added.

This alarming report arrives after the shocking death of Caleb Wilson, a junior at Southern University and A&M College. He was reportedly punched in the chest repeatedly during an off-campus ritual while pledging Omega Psi Phi.
