Jason Kidd was arrested for driving while intoxicated after police say he crashed his Cadillac Escalade into a utility pole in the Hamptons.
The newly signed New York Knicks guard was arrested early Sunday morning in Southampton, New York. Police say Kidd was driving his 2010 Escalade when he went off the road and hit a telephone pole. He suffered minor injuries and was released after his arrest.
Nobody else was hurt, which is the only good news here. A crash like that could have been a lot worse.
The arrest comes just days after Kidd agreed to sign with the Knicks, and about a year after he finally won his first NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks. At 39, he should know better, and he’s lucky this ended with a damaged SUV and a court date instead of something tragic.
