Pierre Thomas, the cofounder of Quality Control Music, is in intensive care at a Las Vegas hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Thomas is under doctors’ care in the ICU and that family members are with him and consulting with his medical team about next steps.
Thomas, who goes by P, built one of the most influential independent labels in modern music. He founded Quality Control in 2013 with Kevin “Coach K” Lee, and the two turned an Atlanta operation into the home of Migos, Lil Baby, Lil Yachty and City Girls, with Cardi B managed under the company early in her career. They put a million dollars and a year into building their own headquarters on the west side of Atlanta, complete with four recording studios, and hired their own radio and promotion staff rather than leaning on somebody else’s machine.
In 2019 the two expanded into sports, launching Quality Control Sports, which represents professional athletes across football, basketball and baseball. In February 2023, Quality Control’s parent company was acquired by HYBE America in a deal reported at $300 million, with Thomas and Lee retaining control of the label.
None of it came easy. Thomas has spoken openly about the years before the music business, when he was on parole and could not get hired anywhere, filling out applications while carrying a form employers had to sign proving he was looking. He has said he considers himself the person who broke a generational cycle of poverty in his family.
Baller Alert will update this story when the family or the label shares more.
