Singer and mom, Pink, recently shared her decision to stop posting family moments on social media during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. In particular, she won’t be posting any more photos of her children Willow Sage, 7 and Jameson Moon, 2.
Pink has always been well-versed in clapping back at trolls online and confessed to Ellen, “Sometimes I feel like I can change their minds I’m all about injustice. I don’t like injustice. I don’t like how brave people are anonymously. Rude, just mean … mean-spirited. So I go in. If I have time, I go in.”
The decision to stop posting her children came after critics slammed her last month for sharing a photo of her kids after her son, Jameson, had taken off his wet swim diaper, baring his private area. The photo received mixed reviews, with some fans shaming the singer for not only posting the moment online but also because of her son’s circumcision. The ordeal made the singer significantly rethink what she shares online.
Pink told Ellen, “People went as far as saying someone should call child services because he didn’t have a diaper on and how dare I…some of the nastiest things. I cried so hard after that because I like to share my family. It’s my proudest moment. I’m prouder of my kids than anything I’ve done in my whole life.” She continued, “I just won’t share them anymore. I won’t do it. I’m not posting pictures of them anymore.”
Pink also clarified that she’s not against constructive criticism, stating, “I understand people saying, ‘You need to be more careful because you are in the public eye and you should of thought of that.’ And they’re right. But there’s a nicer way to say that.”
“There’s a kind way to be online. And I’m open to kindness,” Pink said. “Someone else taught me that the word ‘gypsy’ is derogatory and I’m not a person who uses derogatory language. I wrote back to them, ‘Thank you so much for being so kind and educating me. I’m editing it, I’m taking it down, and that word will never come out of my mouth again.’ There’s a way to do things!”
Pink paid a doctor to tie down her son and cut part of his genitals off, but people who criticize her for it are “mean”. Humanity’s moral compass sure is backwards sometimes.
