Ballerific Travel: U.S. Destinations That Make You Feel Like Your Abroad

Catalina Island, California (instagram)

The U.S. has some cool places that can make you feel like you’re in a different country. These destinations come in handy when you need a quick getaway or can’t travel internationally.

Each destination has its own unique flare. From pristine beaches to cool landscapes, take a look at some places you can go right here in the States that offer a far away-from-home vibe.

Moab, Utah

The location will make you feel like you’re in a Jordanian desert with its red sandstone. Located in eastern Utah, Moab is the gateway to two of the state’s best national parks: Arches National Park with its massive red rock formations, and Canyonlands with its impressive desert landscape. it’s the perfect place for outdoor lovers who want adventure. Visitors can enjoy hot air balloon rides, hiking, mountain biking, river rafting, and more.

Leavenworth, Washington

Looking for a Bavarian-style village? Leavenworth boasts of alpine architecture along a mountain backdrop. There are plenty of restaurants and breweries that also make you feel like you’re in Germany. And the weather can make for a great winter escape with its large amount of snowfall.

Mackinac Island, Michigan

The hidden gem, Mackinac Island, is located between Michigan’s Upper and Lower Peninsulas on Lake Huron. It feels very much like a seaside village in the English countryside with its boutiques, horse-drawn carriages, fudge shops, and Victorian-style homes with sweeping porches. You’ll feel like you’re on another planet since no cars are allowed on the island. Visitors will have to get around by foot or bike, which remains the main mode of transportation here.

Crab Island-Destin, Florida

Crab Island, notably not an actual island but a submerged sandbar, is one of Destin’s most popular attractions. The location is only accessible by boat and is picture-perfect with its clear blue-green waters. But what makes it even cooler is the floating vendors. Visitors can purchase food, drinks, and more right there on the water.

Catalina Island, California

For those who want a French Riviera Italian coast right here in the States, Catalina Island, CA, is the place. The Mediterranean vibes are probably due to the fact that Catalina Island once belonged to the Spanish Empire. It’s nearly 30 minutes away from Los Angeles, but you’ll feel out of pocket once there. It offers plenty of beachfront restaurants and palm trees along the seaside. There’s a lot of scenery to enjoy here.
