Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields announced that the body of missing Clark Atlanta University student Alexis Crawford has been found in an Atlanta area park.
Police say two people are in custody: Alexis’ roommate, 21 year old Jordyn, and the roommate’s boyfriend, 21 year old Barron. Police said one of the suspects led officers to the body. Neither suspect had been convicted of anything at the time of this report.
“The case has come to one of the saddest conclusions possible and has been absolutely heartbreaking,” the chief said. “To Alexis’ family, our hearts go out to you. I am so truly sorry that we could not provide you with a better ending.”
Heavy.com reported, citing a source close to the investigation, that days before she disappeared Alexis filed a police report against Barron claiming unwanted kissing and touching. Police did not confirm whether that played any role in her death.
CNN reports Clark Atlanta University President George French Jr. wrote to the campus community: “Our deepest prayers and thoughts are with her family. Tonight, we mourn together.” He said extra counselors would be available.
Alexis’ sister told police their last communication was around 8:44 p.m. on October 30. Alexis’ mother said her daughter was in good spirits when they last spoke that day, and the family reported her missing on November 1.
According to a police report, her roommate originally told officers she saw Alexis around midnight before going to bed, and that Alexis was gone the next morning with the front door locked by a deadbolt.
