Pooh Shiesty’s father has a message about knowing when to speak and, more importantly, knowing when to stay quiet. Lontrell Williams Sr. shared the warning through his mobtiesglobal Instagram Story, telling followers to be mindful of who they trust with certain conversations. Federal court records identify mobtiesglobal as Williams Sr.’s Instagram account and note that posts on the page have referred to him and Pooh Shiesty, whose legal name is Lontrell Williams Jr., as father and son.
The post reads:
“Be careful who you get comfortable having certain conversations with. Everybody listening ain’t listening with good intentions.
The wrong words, spoken around the wrong people, can become detrimental to you or somebody else. You don’t have to speak on everything you know, hear, or see.
Sometimes the smartest move is to listen, observe, stay quiet, and move accordingly.
Silence can protect you from situations your words can’t take back.”
Williams Sr. did not mention the Pooh Shiesty case in the post, and nothing in the message directly says he was talking about his son, prosecutors, witnesses, or their pending charges. Still, the timing gives the words some added weight as both father and son prepare for a federal trial that has already been pushed into 2027.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas, Williams Sr., Pooh Shiesty, Big30 and six other men were federally charged in April in connection with an alleged January 10 incident at a Dallas recording studio. Prosecutors allege three music industry professionals traveled to Dallas expecting a business meeting connected to Shiesty’s recording contract.
The government claims that once everyone was inside the studio, the meeting turned into what prosecutors described as a coordinated armed takeover. According to the federal complaint, Shiesty allegedly produced an AK-style pistol and forced one of the victims to sign paperwork releasing him from his recording agreement. Prosecutors also accuse other members of the group of displaying firearms and taking watches, jewelry, cash, and other valuables. One person was allegedly choked nearly unconscious. Those allegations have not been proven at trial.
Williams Sr. is facing allegations of his own in the Pooh Shiesty case. The Justice Department claims he helped plan and carry out the alleged kidnapping, and investigators said rental car records connected him to a vehicle allegedly used by members of the group. The federal complaint also says Williams Sr. contacted the recording studio owner on the day of the meeting while trying to arrange studio space.
Williams Sr. has pleaded not guilty. Action News 5 reported that a federal judge allowed him to be released from custody in May after rejecting the government’s effort to revoke his release. Big30, whose legal name is Rodney Wright Jr., has also pleaded not guilty and was later granted pretrial release.
Shiesty has not had the same luck getting out while the case moves forward. According to court developments, U.S. District Judge David C. Godbey rejected another request for pretrial release on July 21, leaving the Memphis rapper in custody. His attorneys had asked the court to reconsider the earlier decision keeping him detained.
The Associated Press reported that prosecutors have since pointed to video, cellphone location information and surveillance footage while arguing against Shiesty’s release. Prosecutors claim one video shows Shiesty pushing for his release from 1017 Records while another armed person blocked the studio door. Shiesty has pleaded not guilty, and his defense has challenged the government’s case.
The current Pooh Shiesty case is especially significant because the January incident allegedly happened while he was on home confinement from an earlier federal conviction. The Justice Department says home detention conditions prohibited him from committing another crime or possessing firearms.
In that earlier case, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida said Shiesty pleaded guilty in January 2022 to conspiring to possess firearms in furtherance of crimes of violence and drug trafficking. The Associated Press later reported that a federal judge sentenced him to five years and three months in prison that April.
The new federal trial was originally expected to begin in July 2026, but court records cited by KERA News show it was moved to February 22, 2027, after Shiesty’s attorneys requested additional preparation time because of the size and complexity of the case. His lawyers said they had already received approximately 96 gigabytes of discovery, representing about 14,000 pages of material, with more evidence expected.
For now, Williams Sr.’s post stands on its own. He did not say what prompted it, but his point was clear: not every conversation needs to be had, not everyone listening can be trusted, and sometimes silence is the smarter move.
