We’re used to hearing about restaurants closing due to the pandemic at this point, but it’s extra sad when it amounts to the end of an era. The last remaining Popeyes buffet is permanently closing.

Popeyes had several all-you-can-eat fried chicken buffets, but over the years, and for “around $10,” you could eat as much of the chain’s favorites as you wanted. Popeyes’ buffet was available from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

But the locations dwindled down to a final Louisiana-based location on Pinhook Road in Lafayette. As coronavirus cases surged in 2020, the dining room shut down, and management changed. Hot 107.9 confirmed that the buffet will not make a return.

“After months have passed, a worker confirmed that the buffet option would not be returning,” DJ Digital announced. “Of course, I continued to question her, asking if she was sure. She was very certain in her replies—doubling down on her original answer that it was gone ‘forever.'”

“While the restaurant will remain open serving their regular menu, the buffet option will not be returning once indoor dining opens back up to the public,” the outlet reported after speaking with the employee on December 7.

The location was so popular that celebrities reportedly frequented it, including Anthony Bourdain. He previously spoke about his love for Popeye’s mac and cheese. The Parts Unknown host admitted to wearing a disguise so he could slip into the restaurant undetected to satisfy his cravings.
