A Manhattan dentist was arrested at his West Village home on Friday, November 20, on federal drug and child pornography charges, according to prosecutors and The New York Times.
The man, John, is 59 years old. According to the criminal complaint, he is accused of providing dental services to a drug dealer in exchange for methamphetamine, and of possessing and distributing child pornography. He has been charged with conspiracy to possess methamphetamine with intent to distribute and with child pornography offenses.
The complaint says the FBI began investigating after the drug dealer was arrested at JFK International Airport in March and became a government informant. Investigators say the informant recorded conversations with the dentist and introduced him to an undercover FBI agent. The complaint alleges that the dentist showed the agent child pornography during a meeting at his office last week.
These are allegations in a criminal complaint, not findings of guilt. A charge is not a conviction, and every defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. A bail hearing is set for next Tuesday.
The FBI is asking anyone with information, or anyone who believes they may have been a victim, to call 212 384 5000.
