Pretty Ricky’s Spectacular Smith took to Instagram to air out his grievances with the music industry on Saturday. He feels the group has not received proper recognition for all of its accomplishments.
“The industry never gave us our flowers,” he wrote. “But we know our value and what we did for our generation and culture.”
He went on to lists all of the firsts he feels the group achieved, including having their shirt off in every video, having rapping verses and singing hooks on their songs, and having a number one album on the hip hop & R&B charts at the same time, among other things.
“We were the first to do a whole r&b and rap album. We were the first to have three rappers and one singer in a group,” he continued.
He added, “We were the first group that you can play the album from the first record to the last without skipping a track. We were the first group that helps you get popping in the bedroom.”
He went on to say that Pretty Ricky was responsible for making it cool to express yourself sexually. He recognizes that the group may never get the props he feels they deserve, but they are aware of their impact.
“I haven’t seen another band come close to us yet, respectfully,” Spectacular concluded his post.
