Prince Harry opened up about how his mother’s death led him to drink and use drugs, and he accuses the royals of “total neglect.”

One thing about Harry, he’s not for none when it comes to his Mama. In a new interview with Oprah Winfrey, the prince detailed his dark past with drugs and alcohol that were brought on by the tragic death of his mother, Princess Diana. The Duke of Sussex says he felt “helpless” following Diana’s death.

“I felt completely helpless,” he said, NBC News reports.” I thought my family would help — but every single ask, request, warning, whatever it is, just got met with total silence or total neglect.” Buckingham Palace has declined to comment, according to the news outlet.

Harry says he hopes that his being open about his mental health will help the next person. He added that the mistreatment of his wife Meghan Markle by the Royal Family triggered the same pain he felt when his mother died. “The clicking of cameras and the flash of cameras makes my blood boil. It makes me angry. It takes me back to what happened to my mum, what I experienced as a kid,” he tells Winfrey in the documentary, “The Me You Can’t See.”

“I was so angry with what happened to her, and the fact that there was no justice at all…The same people that chased her through that tunnel photographed her dying on the back seat of that car,” he said. Harry says his father, Prince Charles, told him that being in front of the camera was a reality he’d have to get used to.

“That doesn’t make sense. Just because you suffered, it doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer. In fact, quite the opposite,” Harry says in the documentary. “Isn’t this all about breaking the cycle?” said Harry. The interview was released Friday, NBC News reports.
