Procter & Gamble recall: Dry shampoos

Procter & Gamble recalled various dry shampoo and conditioner products due to a chemical that can cause cancer. The chemical benzene was found in products from Aussie, Herbel Essence, Pantene, and waterless products made in the U.S.

The recall covers nearly three dozen products that were found to have increased and “Unexpected” levels of the carcinogen benzene.

Benzene can lead to some life-threatening blood disorders. It has been linked to some cancers, including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone marrow.

Dry shampoo products from Hair Food and Old Spice were also previously discontinued.

“While benzene is not an ingredient in any of our other products, our review showed that unexpected levels of benzene came from a propellant that sprays the product out of the can,” the company said in a statement.

The company added: “nothing is more important to us than the safety of the consumers who use our products and the quality of the products we ship.”

The recalled products were distributed nationwide. Retailers have already been alerted to remove products from the shelves. As of now, there haven’t been any reports of issues related to the recalled products.
