Thirteen gorillas at a Georgia zoo have tested positive for COVID–19, and reports claim a human staffer might’ve infected them.
According to TMZ, “Zoo Atlanta” reported that at least 13 of their 20 gorillas are presumptively positive with the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This was discovered after several of them showed symptoms recently and got tested.
The oldest of the zoo’s gorillas is a 60-year-old named Ozzie, who tested positive. The zoo is treating him and the others with monoclonal antibodies, and they will soon receive the Zoetis vaccine (which was developed for animals).
Zoo officials are monitoring their condition and allowing visitors to continue to see them.
