A 2016 surveillance video obtained by CNN shows Sean “Diddy” Combs involved in an altercation with his then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. The incident, which aligns with allegations in a settled lawsuit filed by Ventura in November, took place at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles.
The video, captured from multiple camera angles on March 5, 2016, shows Combs running down a hotel hallway after Ventura, grabbing her by the neck, and throwing her to the floor. Combs, holding a towel around his waist, then kicks Ventura. He retrieves a purse and suitcase, and kicks Ventura again as she lies on the ground. Combs briefly drags Ventura by her sweatshirt before walking away. Ventura eventually stands up, gathers her belongings, and attempts to use a phone near the elevators. Combs returns, appears to shove her, and then throws an object at her before walking away again.
Ventura, who reached an undisclosed settlement with Combs, declined to comment on the video. Her attorney, Douglas H. Wigdor, stated, “The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr. Combs.”
Combs has not commented on the recently released video but previously denied Ventura’s allegations.
Cassie Ventura and Sean Combs were in an on-and-off relationship from 2007 to 2018. Ventura, a model and singer known for songs like “Me & U,” detailed in her complaint that Combs became “extremely intoxicated” and punched her in the face, giving her a black eye during the March 2016 incident. After attempting to leave the hotel room, Ventura claimed that Combs followed her into the hallway, threw glass vases at her, and continued his aggressive behavior.
The complaint also alleges that Combs paid the hotel $50,000 for the hallway security footage. Ventura’s lawsuit included multiple allegations of physical and sexual abuse, stating that Combs exerted power and influence over her throughout their relationship.
Ben Brafman, an attorney for Combs, stated that Combs “vehemently denies these offensive and outrageous allegations” and emphasized that the decision to settle the lawsuit was not an admission of wrongdoing. The details of the settlement remain confidential.
Since November, Combs has faced five other civil lawsuits alleging various forms of sexual misconduct and other illegal activities, which he has denied. In April, authorities searched Combs’ homes in California and Florida as part of a federal investigation related to these allegations. Aaron Dyer, another attorney for Combs, criticized the searches as an overreach and a “witch hunt based on meritless accusations.”
