21 Savage Reveals the Exact Moment He Knew Drake Was Doomed Against Kendrick Lamar [Video]

21 Savage is clearing the air on what really happened during the height of the Drake versus Kendrick Lamar beef, and according to him, the whole thing was a losing setup from the jump.

In his marathon sit-down with Big Bank on Thursday, the Atlanta rapper broke down how he tried to pull Drake back before things spiraled into one of rap’s biggest showdowns of the year. Savage said the warning came early after the first diss track. They connected on the phone, and 21 didn’t sugarcoat a thing.

“He called me one of them days or I called him,” Savage said, describing that early conversation. “I think this was after the first song, the song with Metro and them, and I said, ‘You finna go into a battle that you can’t win, like, there’s no way you can win. No matter what, bruh. Certain situations, even if you win, you still don’t win.’”

From 21’s perspective, the problem wasn’t Drake’s pen or Kendrick’s response time. It was the crowd. Savage said the internet already had its mind made up and nothing Drake did was going to shift that energy.

“How can you win a battle when n***as want you to lose it?” he said. He made it clear he wasn’t calling Drake a loser, but he felt the outcome was locked in no matter what. “If Drake just dropped songs and Kendrick never responded or nothing, he still don’t win because his position didn’t change.”

Savage also pointed out that ego and love for the craft played a major role in why both artists kept pushing. He said Drake and Kendrick are wired to rap at the highest level, but even talent hits a ceiling when the internet decides the narrative before the music hits the timeline.

“Even if Drake won, he would have been the bad guy for winning,” Savage added.

For 21 Savage, the whole situation showed how fan expectations, online bias, and pure spectacle can shape a rap battle just as much as the actual bars.
