A 23-year-old man is believed to have drowned while swimming at Lake Lanier on Saturday, according to officials.Â
Atlanta News First reports that Edgar Steven Cruz went under the water and didn’t resurface. According to the Georgia Department of National Resources, game wardens, crews with Gwinnett County fire, and the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office responded to the park just after 3 p.m. for reports of a drowning.Â
Crews were able to locate the victim in 10 feet of water using sonar. Swimmers from the Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services recovered Cruz’s body.
No additional information was provided.Â
Cruz is one of several people who have drowned in Lake Lanier this year. Two other men in their 20s drowned, and a 24-year-old was reported electrocuted after jumping into the lake.Â
