Over 40 churchgoers have contracted the coronavirus after attending a multi-day revival at an Alabama Baptist Church.
According to Pastor Daryl Ross of Warrior Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Marshall County, he and most of his parishioners tested positive after a series of services with a guest pastor.
“The whole church has got it, just about,” Ross told the A1. com.
Services were shut down by Friday after one member of the church tested positive for the virus. According to ABC News, the member did not show symptoms but got tested after his coworkers received positive results.
Just two days later, dozens of other attendees had fallen ill. But luckily, only two cases were serious, and as of Sunday, no one has been hospitalized.
“We knew what we were getting into,” Ross said. “We knew the possibilities.”
Although social distancing rules were in place during the series of services, masks were not required.
“We let everybody do what they felt like…. If you were comfortable shaking hands, you shook hands. If you didn’t, you didn’t,” Ross added.
