A biopic about Death Row Records’ notorious co-founder Suge Knight is currently in the planning stage.
According to Deadline, movie producer Steve Whitney and his company, TSW Films bought Suge’s life rights and is planning on making a biopic about his life. There were rumors in the past that his longtime friend Ray J is the new owner over Suge’s life rights but that was incorrect news. The rap mogul later disputed those claims and said Ray J is only in charge of Death Row dealings.
“Over the last 30 years, there has been so much talk about Compton, me, the inner cities, and Death Row. A lot of talk. Even when it comes to making my movie there has been so many imposters saying they have my rights, or they got the deal… that was, and is, all talk,” Suge says.
Knight continued by saying Mike Klein, a Ruthless Records executive who notified him of Ruthless plans to sneakingly buy Dr. Dre behind his back, introduced him to Steve.
“I met a guy named Mike Klein that was with Ruthless….Mike Klein told me about it and I respect him for it. We became friends. So when it came time to do a real movie and tell the truth about it he introduced me to Steve Whitney. Now, Steve, Mike, and I, and the woman that has my back, are making this movie. Taking it to the next level,” Knight adds.
There haven’t been any extra details about the upcoming film however, Suge will remain incarcerated during filming and its release.
Suge was is currently serving 28 years in prison after being arrested back in 2015 for killing Heavyweight Records co-founder Terry Carter & injuring filmmaker Cle “Bone” Sloan.
