The 2020 NBA All-Star Dunk Contest in Chicago featured Orlando Magic’s Aaron Gordon dunking over the 7’5 Boston Celtics’ player, Tacko Fall.
The dunk should have been the icing on the cake, giving Gordon the perfect score of 50 in the tightly contested battle with Miami Heat’s Derrick Jones Jr. But the scoring judges, Miami Heat future Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen, and actor Chadwick Boseman, scored the dunk as a 9; while WNBA All-Star Candace Parker and Chicago Hip-Hop Icon Common gave the dunk a 10.
Surprising everyone in attendance at the United Center in Chicago, Jones Jr., was declared the winner with a total score of 48 to Gordon’s 47. But now, just months later, still feeling robbed of winning the dunk contest, Gordon took to the studio to release a diss track.
On Monday, Gordon dropped the track called, “9 OUT OF 10.” The music video opened with Gordon sipping a glass of red wine from a bottle that appeared to say “Wade,” representing the former Heat star’s Wade Cellars brand.
”Knew one day I’d be good and you’d come for me, didn’t know it would make me this hungry,” Gordon rapped. ”See you in the hallway when you say ‘youngin’ ’bout to put on a show,’ didn’t know that was code for ‘you’re about to get rolled.’”
The 2020 dunk contest was not Gordon’s first-time being robbed of the NBA Dunk Contest trophy. In 2016, Zach Lavine arguably defeated Gordon in what many have called one of the best dunk contests ever.
”It’s a wrap, bro,” Gordon told reporters after losing to Jones Jr. “I feel like I should have two trophies. Jumping over somebody 7’5 and dunking is no easy feat. What did I get, like a 47? Come on, man. What are we doing?”
Dwyane Wade took to Twitter in response to Gordon’s 9 out of 10, ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
“He should trademark 9/10. Make some money off of it,” Wade tweeted. “That’s free advice that I won’t charge him for it. (You know since I costed him a Mill).”
