What an incredible ending in Detroit on Thursday night! In one of the craziest NFL games all season, Aaron Rodgers was able to lead the Packers to a miraculous comeback win over the Detroit Lions on the last play of the game.
It started out as a horrible night for the Packers, who got completely dominated by their division rivals in the first half of the game. It seemed certain that they were going to lose to the Lions for the second time this season. Trailing 17-0 at halftime, the Packers were able to rally in the second half and get within 2 points of the Lions late in the fourth quarter. Down 21-23, the game seemed to be over for the Packers after they ran off the clock on a lateral play that ended with Rodgers getting tackled by the Lions defense. But with 0:00 left on the clock, the refs threw a flag on the field. To the Lions’ dismay, the defense got flagged for a facemask penalty on Rodgers, which meant that the Packers would get one last free play. Still, the Packers were backed up all the way on their own 39-yard line and chances were less than slim that they would actually be able to make something happen.
But never ever count Aaron Rodgers out. With a beautiful throw that was as accurate as it was long, Rodgers threw a 61-yard Hail Mary pass and hit tight end Richard Rodgers in the end zone to win the game. The unbelievable touchdown sent Packers players and fans into a frenzy and sent Lions players and fans home stunned and depressed.
Aaron Rodgers, who just turned 32 this week, said he “blacked out” and “doesn’t know what happened” on the last play. Talk about an unforgettable way to bring in your birthday! “It was the greatest game of my life since the Super Bowl,” he said with a huge grin.
