Alabama GOP Lawmaker Involved In KKK Controversy Arrested For Theft

An Alabama state representative involved in controversy after honoring a Confederate army general who founded the Ku Klux Klan last week turned himself in for an arrest warrant on first-degree property theft charges, according to The Hill.

Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey announced a warrant was issued for the arrest of Rep. Will Dismukes on Thursday for stealing money from his former employer, Weiss Commercial Flooring Inc.

Dismukes is accused of stealing more than $2,500 over a two year time period.

“After countless hours of investigation, which consisted of witness interviews, obtaining bank records, and gathering other evidence, a decision was made by myself and prosecutors in my office, along with these investigators, that probable cause existed that a crime had been committed,” Bailey said.

The GOP lawmaker turned himself in to authorities at the Montgomery County Detention Facility accompanied by his lawyer, Trey Norman.

Dismukes denies the allegations.
