Earlier this month, Clark Atlanta University student, Alexis Crawford, was reported missing, just two days after the last time anyone had seen or heard from her. Seven days later, the body of the 21-year-old was found in a DeKalb County park, after the alleged suspects, Jordyn Jones, who was Crawford’s roommate and best friend, and Jones’ boyfriend, Barron Brantley, confessed to the crime.
Now, after further investigation, new court documents reveal the devastating details of Crawford’s death and disappearance, including the student’s cause of death. In docs obtained by 11 Alive, Crawford was allegedly strangled and smothered to death after a physical altercation with Jones.
Although the two were like “two peas in a pod,” according to Crawford’s family-having spent the holidays with one another, the relationship reportedly grew strained in the days before her death, a family spokesman told USA TODAY.
Just a few days before Crawford was reported missing, the 21-year-old filed a police report against Jones’ boyfriend, Brantley, accusing him of “unwanted kissing and touching,” according to the Atlanta Police Chief.
On Oct. 30, Crawford and Jones traveled to the liquor store together, and the following day, the altercation ensued. According to the Homicide Unit, amid the melee, Brantley stepped in and choked Crawford to death with his hands, while the warrant said Jones smothered the student with a black trash bag. Afterward, according to reports, the two then placed Crawford’s body in a plastic bin, took it to Exchange Park in Decatur, and put her in a wooded area.
On Friday, Brantley was arrested and charged with felony murder after confessing to the crime. Jones was arrested Saturday morning and also charged. Both are being held without bond.
