The holidays are usually about peace and love, but Amanda Seales is serving up a side of spicy tea instead.
During a tell-all Christmas Eve livestream, the former Insecure actress dropped a bombshell, claiming that Erykah Badu once used her influence to get Seales fired from a television writing job.
According to Seales, the drama unfolded while she was working under a head writer who was romantically involved with the “Tyrone” singer at the time. While no names were named, industry fans were quick to point out that Badu previously dated Black Dynamite creator Carl Jones, a show where the singer also lent her voice.
The friction reportedly started after Seales made a comment about Badu’s personality during a conversation with the head writer.
Seales recalled discussing how Badu’s agents were having a “difficult time understanding her,” and she referred to the artist as “crazy.”
While most would take that as a jab, Seales insisted she meant it as a compliment between two eccentric Black women.
“These agents don’t understand crazy, they don’t understand that we’re not your regular-degular. So why would they understand her?” Seales explained to her viewers, noting that her boss didn’t see the vision and interpreted the remark as pure disrespect toward his lady.
Seales alleged that she was promptly removed from the project because the boyfriend felt she was being “disrespectful” to the Queen of Neo-Soul.
“Erykah got me fired from a job,” Seales declared. “Erykah Badu got me fired from a writing gig. … Her man was the head writer of the show that I was writing on.” The situation got even pettier when Seales claimed she received a random text from Badu herself shortly after the firing. “And out the blue, I got a text from [Badu] saying, ‘Oh, I didn’t know you were a comedy writer,'” Seales recalled, to which she hit back with a sarcastic, “Surprise!”
This wasn’t the first time the two women allegedly clashed over a man. Seales also shared a story about a tense interaction involving Jay Electronica, the father of Badu’s third child. Seales mentioned that she and the rapper were once vibing on X, which led to a protective DM from the singer.
“She DMed me and was like, ‘You know Jay Electronica’s my man.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah?'” Seales said. She was quick to clarify that she never had any intention of moving on Badu’s territory, stating, “But she never had anything to worry about. That’s not my vibe.”
Despite the history of “weird conversations” and professional roadblocks, Seales isn’t holding back on her truth. She noted that Badu has been unfriendly toward her on “many” occasions, but this specific incident of losing a gig remains a major point of contention.
“I never wanted any of Erykah Badu’s men.”
