André 3000 is opening up about his decision to become a flutist after decades of being one of hip-hop’s biggest acts.
During a recent performance, he addressed his crowd, answering a lingering question about what drove him to pursue the instrument.
“What I always say to myself is, ‘You really never know. You have an idea what you wanna do in life, but you never know where it can take you,’” he shared.
Three Stacks went on to explain that he never envisioned himself as a rapper until he and Big Boi formed Outkast in high school. Instead, he was more interested in visual art but shared that he and his groupmate wanted to try music, which took off. According to the 49-year-old musician, his thought process surrounding the flute was the same.
“That’s kinda the same thing what happened with the flute. I’m like, ‘Let’s try it,’” he added.
The surfaced clip of the performance comes just days after André received harsh reactions due to his performance at the Atlanta Jazz Festival, with many criticizing his new career endeavor.
No matter the response, it’s clear that Three Stacks will not be putting down the flute anytime soon.
