André 3000 wasn’t too thrilled with the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
In a recent interview with Crack Magazine, the Outkast legend shared that the tense exchange between the two rap giants left him feeling “a little sad.” He explained that the stakes are much higher now compared to the early days of rap battles.
“In the early days, you had kids in the park rapping against each other. But it’s different now,” André said. “You’ve got people with 100 employees, livelihoods, empires, companies, deals—all of that can be jeopardized. If you don’t have anything to lose, sure, go for it. But if I’ve already made it, I’m not sure it’s even worth it anymore.”
André 3000 has always maintained a positive relationship with fellow artists, so his concern isn’t surprising. Fortunately, the feud between Lamar and Drake seems to have cooled off since the release of the “Not Like Us” video in early July, which many saw as the final word on the matter. Drake has remained mostly silent on the drama since then, even with the release of new music on his recent “100 gigabytes” website, indicating he may have moved on. Public opinion largely viewed Lamar as the winner of the battle.
André 3000 isn’t the only one who was disheartened by the conflict. Comedian Marlon Wayans also called for a ceasefire after rappers Rick Ross and The Game jumped in with their own diss tracks.
