Iowa's Caitlin Clark Speaks On Backlash LSU's Angel Reese Has Received Over Hand Gesture

Nearly a year after capturing widespread attention during the NCAA women’s championship, LSU basketball star Angel Reese shared insights into her relationship with Caitlin Clark. In a recent interview with Women’s Health magazine, Reese revealed that despite their competitive rivalry on the court, she and Clark maintain a positive relationship off the court.

“I love that we’re able to compete and still be cool afterward, regardless of the external chatter,” Reese commented. She drew parallels between their rivalry and the iconic basketball era of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, suggesting that if they are seen in a similar light, she’s all for it. “I think we’re both pleased with how things are unfolding,” she added.

The dialogue between Reese and Clark, especially during LSU’s victory over Iowa for the national title last April, sparked conversations that unfortunately included racial undertones. Reflecting on these experiences, Reese acknowledged the importance of mental health, particularly after taking a break from four games at the start of this season for her well-being.

“Taking time for oneself is crucial,” Reese emphasized. Last year, she highlighted the significance of mental health, stating, “My mental health is my top priority, and I need to ensure I’m okay before anything else. I don’t want to be a negative influence in the locker room.”

As Reese navigates her success off the court as a notable figure in Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) endorsements, she contemplates her future—whether to utilize her remaining eligibility for another season or to enter the WNBA draft. Her aspiration? To be selected among the top 5 picks. Reese’s journey from on-court rivalry to off-court reflection underscores the multifaceted nature of athletes’ lives, balancing competition, camaraderie, and personal well-being.
