Angry Mob Throws Bottles, Pulls Hair Of Woman Who Climbed Ancient Mayan Temple

An entitled tourist sparked outrage after she climbed the steps of the ancient Mayan Temple of Kukulcán.

Also known as the El Castillo and located in Chichén Itzá, this monument attracts millions of tourists worldwide. However, in 2008, climbing the landmark was prohibited in an effort to protect it from erosion, graffiti, and any other damage. Sadly, an unknown woman recently ignored those rules and walked to the top of the 82-foot pyramid. As she danced in celebration of her feat, spectators became enraged, screaming for the woman to be jailed.

Cell phone footage showed the woman ignoring the crowd as she moved about the steps. Tourists could be heard yelling “a**hole” and “idiot” at the woman to no avail. The uncouth visitor, wearing bright red pants and a blue shirt, made it all the way to the temple room before she walked back down the steps. Upon her completion, the woman was met by an angry mob, who continued to throw things at her and officials with the Mexican Institute of Anthropology and History.

However, the crowd did not stop at yelling and hurling objects. One video showed infuriated protesters pulling the woman’s hair and knocking off her hat. No one from the crowd appeared to be apprehended, but the local police arrested the unnamed attention-seeker. She was also charged a fine for violating the protection order of the site, which could range from $2,500 to more than $5,000, as outlined by Mexico’s Federal Law on Monuments and Archaeological, Artistic and Historical Areas.

Luckily, the temple had not been harmed.
