Legendary singer Anita Baker is back and better than ever after securing her masters, crediting Chance The Rapper with helping her conquer such a huge feat.
During her Las Vegas concert at the Venetian Theater on Sunday, May 29th, the “Body & Soul” vocalist took a break from singing to acknowledge the rapper for helping her regain control of her master recordings from her former record label. Chance, who’d not told Baker he’d be attending, watched from the audience as she commended him for his selfless efforts.
“Would you guys say hello to a friend of mine by way of the music industry, by way of helping me get a hold and ownership of my master records? Mister Chance The Rapper is right there,” the 63-year-old announced, followed by immediate cheering from the crowd. Chance briefly stood and waved before reclaiming his seat.
After the concert, Chance took to Twitter to praise Baker and hailed her show as “one of the greatest performances of my lifetime.” The Grammy-award-winning R&B icon responded to his tweet, revealing she was unaware he’d be there but that seeing him “brought tears” to her eyes.Ā

Though it is unclear what role Chance played in Baker regaining her masters, in previous months, she’d been vocal about her struggle with owning her music. Anita Baker even encouraged fans to stop streaming her records, including hits such as “Sweet Love” and “Caught Up in the Rapture,” as a form of protest. However, her loyal supporters rejoiced in September 2021 when she revealed that she’d won the battle for her music.Ā Ā
