On the same day that Young Dolph’s widow, Mia Jaye, shared a heartfelt video about life since his passing, police announced the arrest of a third man who participated in his murder.
On Thursday, 43-year-old Hernandez Govan was indicted by a grand jury on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder for his role in the death of Dolph on November 17th, 2021. The “Get Paid” rapper and Paper Route Empire mogul was shot to death as he was inside Makeda’s Cookies on Airways Boulevard in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. His autopsy report revealed that he suffered 22 gunshot wounds.
The shooting sent shockwaves through the city, who gathered at Makeda’s for weeks, building a makeshift memorial that quickly became a massive shrine, attracting thousands of fans before it was taken down in March of this year.
Govan is the third man to be charged in connection with the killing. Two other suspects, Justin Johnson and Cornelius Smith were previously indicted on January 12th for Dolph’s slaying. Both have pleaded not guilty. Another suspect, Shundale Barnett, who was charged with accessory after the fact, was mistakenly released from jail in February. He was apprehended in Indiana, where he remains.
The exact motive for Dolph’s murder has not been made public.
