Former NFL standout Antonio Brown is back in the United States and in custody after being extradited from Dubai earlier this week.
The 37-year-old athlete is now facing one count of attempted second-degree murder with a deadly weapon after an alleged altercation during a boxing event in Miami back in May. Investigators say Brown was involved in a heated confrontation with another man at the influencer-packed event. According to reports, Brown allegedly took a handgun from a security guard and confronted the man outside, where witnesses say two shots were fired. The alleged victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, claimed one of the bullets grazed his neck.
In response, Brown took to social media to defend himself, stating, “I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical harm to me.” He added, “Contrary to some video circulating, police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I went home that night and was not arrested.”
Federal agents accompanied Brown to the New York area before turning him over to local police. He is expected to be transported to South Florida, where the case originated.
If convicted, Brown could face up to 15 years in prison.
