Antonio Brown has been charged with attempted murder in Florida following an incident at a Miami boxing event in May 2025. He was recently brought back to the United States after being detained in Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, has publicly defended his client, saying the former athlete was acting to protect himself.
“Mr. Brown responded only to an immediate threat and acted within his rights to defend himself against someone who had previously posed danger to him,” Eiglarsh said. “I’m committed to making sure his side of the story is fully heard in court.”
A central issue in the case is Florida’s “stand your ground” law. Legal experts will examine whether the threat against the former NFL wide receiver had ended before he allegedly fired a gun at those involved. Before he fled the country, Brown had maintained he acted in self-defense during the incident. Video from that night shows him in an altercation with several men before shots are heard.
If convicted, Brown could face up to 15 years behind bars. During his 12-season NFL career, Brown played for the Steelers, Raiders, Patriots, and Buccaneers.
