Apple retail employees are using Androids for their unionization efforts out of fear that the company may try to access their communication.
Workers in various Apple stores across the United States are unionizing to push back at the company for failing to raise their pay in response to inflation. With unionization talks ramping up, many staffers are resorting to Androids to prevent spying from Apple officials.
In addition to using rival devices to organize, employees are reportedly conducting secret meetings that are being scheduled via encrypted messages, the Washington Post reports. National labor groups have backed employees from at least two Apple retail locations and are gearing up to formally request representation from the National Labor Relations Board.
As of now, it remains unclear what transpired that made employees feel that their privacy was at stake. However, Apple has made several attempts to satisfy workers before the situation escalates by offering raises, better benefits, and bonuses. However, it appears that their efforts have arrived a little too late.
Considering the amount of money that Apple brings in worldwide, the salary increase push should be a no-brainer, especially considering that Apple CEO Tim Cook could be granted a $99 million pay package. However, retail employees are struggling financially.
“I have a lot of co-workers and friends who I genuinely love, and they do not make enough to get by,” said one anonymous Apple retail worker.
The company has a value of nearly $3 trillion.
