Former “Love & Hip-Hop: Hollywood” star Apple Watts is opening up about the near-fatal car accident that left her partially reliant on a wheelchair. Unfortunately, Watts admits she had been drinking before getting behind the wheel.
Reflecting on the March 2022 crash with Mark Laita on “Soft White Underbelly,” she revealed, “I was a little buzzed, but it was hours later. I guess I fell asleep and ran into a truck… I was going 90 miles per hour.”
The collision caused her car to flip multiple times and burst into flames. Watts sustained a shattered spine, broken arm, and fractured skull. After being airlifted to Las Vegas University Medical Center, she remained in a coma for four months.
“When I woke up, I forgot everything and everybody,” she recalled.
Now nearly three years later, Watts shares her harrowing experience to warn others.
“Don’t drink and drive. Lots of people died off of this stuff,” she cautioned. She admits her lifestyle once normalized drinking and drugs. “I thought I was bulletproof.”
Watts’ injuries ended her career as a dancer, but she’s determined to channel her experience into motivational speaking.
“I just want to save lives. I don’t want anybody going through what I went through,” she said.
Watts also shared that she wished her loved ones had previously intervened and stopped her from drinking. However, she admitted that her short temper caused them to refrain from interfering with her habits.
“I regret all the things I took for granted before the accident,” she confessed, adding that her journey has taught her resilience and the value of life. Since debuting on Thursday, the interview has amassed over 276,000 views.
