The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University revealed that candidates can utilize artificial intelligence on their applications.

“Our law school is driven by an innovative mindset. By embracing emerging technologies, and teaching students the ethical responsibilities associated with technology. We will enhance legal education and break down barriers that may exist for prospective students,” Willard H. Pedrick Dean and Regents Professor of Law Stacy Leeds said.

The university stated that its objective is to educate and equip the upcoming cohort of lawyers and leaders. ASU also acknowledged the significant role of adopting technology through well-rounded strategies tailored for law schools.

In addition, the school is offering courses that explore the legal, policy, and ethical aspects of AI. These courses cover topics like the safety, privacy, security, accountability, discrimination, regulation, liability, and rights of AI systems. The classes focus on assessing the utilization and precision of AI-generated text, training students to approach its implementation in the legal sector with a “critical” mindset.

Nevertheless, the university mentioned that there’s a global demand for lawyers who can handle the scientific and technological elements of legal matters. They highlighted that AI is becoming a crucial technology that impacts all aspects of our lives and the current legal landscape.

“We are embracing this technology because we see the benefits it may bring to students and future lawyers. Generative AI is a tool available to nearly everyone. Regardless of their economic situation, that can help them submit a strong application when used responsibly,” the university said.
