In 2023, the Grammy-winning artist married Nelly, one year after their reconciliation. They share an infant son, Kareem, and had been apart for nearly a decade before getting back together. Reflecting on her relationship journey while speaking with REVOLT‘s Ty Cole, Ashanti revealed her key to rekindling love: “Be true to yourself. You can’t force it. What’s meant to be will always be. Regardless of time, regardless of whatever. When it’s meant to be, it’ll be. You have to trust that. Obviously, I’m a testament to that.”

Ashanti and Nelly’s reconciliation began at the 2021 Verzuz battle between Fat Joe and Ja Rule, when they embraced, signaling the start of their romantic reunion. Ashanti’s words echoed that timing and fate played their part.

She also shared how being a wife and mother has transformed her perspective. “Family first — being married and having a child. My mind is thinking bigger and better and more out the box, obviously,” she said. “I wrote a children’s book, and I kind of want to just dive into the lane of children now… it’s like [times] a million.”
