An Australian restaurant is rebranding after Kanye West sends them a cease and desist letter.
On Thursday, College Dropout Burgers reportedly received some backlash from Kanye. Yeezy is allegedly asking the burger joint to rebrand themselves or face legal issues.
In addition to the name, the restaurant also referenced Kanye songs throughout its menu. CDB offers a ‘Golddigger’ fried chicken burger, a ‘Good Morning’ breakfast burger, and a ‘Cheezus’ burger.
“It’s pretty hard being a Kanye West fan with this situation. We have to respect his wishes and move forward,” Mark Elkhouri, the restaurant’s founder, says.
Elkhouri mentions that initially, he thought Kanye was a fan of the restaurant because he viewed their Instagram story. However, it seems as though he was just collecting information for his letter.
“The fact he was viewing our [Instagram] Stories and was there had me believe he was a fan of us,” Elkhouri added.
As a result, Elkhouri isn’t debating with Kanye and will rebrand his company. Elkhouri will be changing the name of the restaurant and the logo, which is a variation of Kanye’s ‘Graduation’ bear.
“Moving forward, I feel like it is a bit of a blessing in disguise,” Elkhouri said. “Because let’s face it, not everyone is a Kanye West fan.”
Despite Kanye’s letter, Elkhouri isn’t letting the legal issues effect his idolization of the rapper.
“I am extremely disappointed. There’s no doubt about that, but it doesn’t even come close to the impact that he’s had on my life,” Elkhouri adds.
