Bad Bunny’s Ex-Girlfriend Sues Him For $40M for Using Her Voice In Past Songs

Bad Bunny is having a bad break up. His ex-girlfriend is not only taking him to court but she’s also requesting the judge order him to pay her $40 million.

Carliz De La Cruz Hernández, filed a $40 million lawsuit in a Puerto Rican court earlier this month. She alleges that her ex, Bad Bunny, used a recording of her “distinguishable” voice, saying “Bad Bunny, baby,” in at least two songs, including “ Pa Ti” and “Dos Mil 16.”

Her issue is, he used it without her permission in songs and in promotional material and concerts, ET reported.

“Since then, thousands of people have commented directly on Carliz’s social media networks, as well as every time she goes to a public place, about the ‘Bad Bunny, baby,'” the lawsuit alleges. “This has caused, and currently causes, that De La Cruz feels worried, anguished, intimidated, overwhelmed and anxious.”

The former couple started dating in 2011, and during that time is when he allegedly asked her to record the now-famous phrase, “Bad Bunny baby,” for him to use while mixing his songs.

The two officially ended their relationship in 2017. De La Cruz claims that a representative for Bad Bunny, who formally goes by Benito Martínez Ocasio, contacted her in 2022, and offered to pay her $2,000 for the rights to the voice recording, but she turned it down.

De La Cruz says his record label Rimas Music, contacted her again with a second offer to buy the rights to the recording for “Dos Mil 16,” but she denied it again. She claims she again never gave authorization for the use of her voice recording, which she says was used anyway.

“Since De La Cruz made it clear that she did not consent to its use, its publication constituted an act of gross negligence, bad faith, and, worse still, an attack on their privacy, morals, and dignity since all parties had and still have knowledge of these facts and even so decided to be reckless and break the law,” a translation of the lawsuit reads. “Likewise, the publication of the song ‘Dos Mil 16’ without the consent of Carliz was carried out intentionally, in bad faith and for profit.”
